FINE DINING

A formal dining room in a home is the perfect excuse to get a little
dramatic
Drama in the form of furnishings,
lighting
architecture
color
OR ALL OF THE ABOVE

if you have a boring dining room its not for lack of materials out there

fine dining should include something lovely to look at
besides the person opposite you at the table

they are good rooms to show off collections

looking for less formal?
try bench seating

banquettes are becoming more popular
and more creative

the crown jewel of a dining room is always the chandelier
glimmering in crystal

or graceful iron

or both

love that this dining room has a fireplace
making winter dining cozy and romantic

if windows are present
beautiful draperies are a must

and wicker takes the formality down just a notch

I really like this room...
I like the wall color, the french doors, the antique sideboard and the mismatched dining set

I'd add a rug and update the lampshades, but I love how fresh it feels
painting the chairs really lifted the room

if the dining room is visible from the living room
the colors need to flow together
so that they look like they belong together
these share floor coverings and the color green

with an extra long table you can get away with two chandeliers...

beautiful color
interesting architecture
dramatic center piece

 QUESTION FROM A READER

Hello, I want to paint the master bedroom in my home a beige color and was thinking of going with BM clay beige. Could you please give me some ideas of colors for the master bathroom? I know the colors should mesh well but wasn't sure which should be darker (the bedroom or bath) and what shades go well together. Thank you!

Bathrooms can be darker - or lighter - depending on the first color.  So since Clay Beige is actually considered an off-white, it would be hard to go lighter - I'd either go the same color or a little darker for the bathroom.  As you can see in the photo above, varying shades of beige, tan and brown look great with Clay Beige.  If you want to stay in the earth tones, here are a couple to consider.

Clay Beige is so neutral that you could also go with a soft color in the bathroom and then echo some of that color in the bedroom in accessories or fabrics.
